The way Big Business functions always fascinates me as I expect it does everyone else. The stakes are always high with large amounts of dollars to be gained the sharks abound. What is also intriguing about this movie is it's depiction of the Chinese judicial system. Accurate or fictional, probabaly a bit of both, the actress protraying the lawyer has to struggle and find strength to stand up for proper human rights. Ths we all know happens in China where people are basically cogs in a wheel (over-population)). Richard Gere, as hard as he tries, will never be a superstar actor (maybe at the box office), but not as an actor. Great film for adults; not for children.Touching but Predictable - kurz1
This is one of those court dramas that highlight the cultural differences between two unique justice systems. Despite what the cover might portray, there is little action in this movie. Much of the story is unrolled by dialogue with a dash of CSI and a sprinkle of police brutality. If you've watched enough of the series "The Practice" or have scene at least one mystery movie, the ending would hardly surprise anyone. I give it 4 stars for the dramatic touch to the movie. I thought it was well done in that sense.
