Reign of Fire
"Loads of Fun!" - The New York Times
Matthew McConaughey (U-571) and Christian Bale (Shaft) star in an explosive action-adventure with bone-chilling special effects that will have you glued to your seat!
When a London tunneling project uncovers an unearthly fire-breathing beast from centuries of slumber, all hell breaks loose. Twelve-year old Quinn (Bale) sees his mother, one of the workers, die trying to escape this new terror. Twenty years later as a "fire chief," he tries to keep a group of refugees alive with fierce dragons dominating the air, burning the land, and shows up with a ragtag group of slayers on a perilous crusade to hunt down and destroy the beasts. Tempers flare when there is a struggle for leadership - until both men realize only one species is getting out of this alive.

Great movie! - Alribo
I decided to rent this one since my kids are fans of Christian Bale. Didn't know what to expect but it was WAY better than I thought! Involving right from the start, suspenseful, actiony, you name it. It was intense. And I also appreciated (since my kids were watching) no swearing / nudity stuff like that - a good old fashioned popcorn move. Liked it a lot!awesome movie - Raoul
what an awesome movie.
another underestimated movie with christian bale
( equilibrium anyone ? ) that should have been made into either a tv series , a trilogy or something.
just like equilibrium you have a very interresting story that don't get enought time to expand .
you get christian bale and matthew mcconaughey
as the two bad ass heroes and one of the most
beautifull actress alive : izabella scorupco
as the third musketeer/ love interrest.
a little more budget and running time to elabore
the story and it could have become a classic,
instead we get a great movie that could have been
spectacular.Good ... but should have been great! - sinic
I can't put my finger on why, but this should have been one of those movies that really shood out from the crowd. The premise is great: Dragons rise from their centuries old slumbler to raise hell on earth and a band of heroes looks to take them down ...
I think the problem is that there were too many slow moments. With dragons capable of so much destruction roaming the earth, there really should have been a feeling of suspense all of the time, but some of the sub-plots really ruin the mood.
I found the acting to be a little over the top, but the special effects were great. You do get the feeling though that they were trying to save some money by not having the dragons on the screen a lot more and instead concentrating on life hiding from them.
I would love to see a proper remake of this movie with a better story and today's special effects, but it is highly unlikely. Still worth a watch, just don't expect too much.
