Requiem For A Dream (Director's Cut)
"Brilliant. A Work Of Art." -Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times
Darren Aronofsky, director of the critical smash Pi, follows up his acclaimed debut with a gritty, stylish, emotionally charged story of love, loss, drugs and dreams amid the faded glory of Coney Island. Intricately linking the lives of a struggling, small-time drug dealer (Jared Leto), his pill-popping mother (Ellen Burstyn), his upper-class girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly) and his best friend (Marlon Wayans), Requiem For A Dream is a hypnotic tale of four human beings each pursuing their vision of happiness. Even as everything begins to fall apart, they refuse to let go, plummeting with their dreams into a nightmarish, gut-wrenching freefall.

At first I thought they had sent the wrong movie. A very interesting start to a riveting film. I was gently sucked into the story and then pinned like a butterfly in some freak’s collection. Helpless to turn away from the gruesome events that unfold. If your kids are dabbling in drugs and you dare, show them this, there just isn't any glory in drug addiction. The most powerfully disturbing movie of the year. - Nikki
Requiem For A Dream is a harrowing look at the perils of addiction and self destruction that starts as a quiet examination of normal life and then builds to a crescendo of unspeakable horror. Brilliantly shot, uncompromising film, with career-best performances from its stars. Why not to do drugs - TheCritic123
I walked into this one blindly about 5 years ago and have watched this probably 15 times since then. All I can say is that this movie brings you in pretty much from the get go and never lets go. The story revolves around 4 people mainly and three stories. They start out well and then go terribly wrong. The acting is exceptional especially Ellen Burstsyn and portrays Wayans in a more serious and memorable roll then you would expect. Leto and Connelly have fantastic chemistry aswell. I can honestly say that this movie was powerful enough in my "Trying Years" to convince me never to try hardcore drugs or anything serious for that matter and I know that some people find it dark and depressing but memorable is something that this one has no problem being and you wont soon forget any of the characters or their stories. Two thumbs up and in my top 5 movies of all time.
