Utena has it all. Beauty. Passion. Faith. A sense of justice. She is the idol of her classmates at the exclusive Ohtori Academy. And yet, she is driven by a childhood memory of prince on a white horse who comforted her when she was grieving over her parents' death. He gave her an enigmatic signet ring emblazoned with a rose crest, and this memory drives Utena to do the impossible: To become a prince, herself, as she duels the members of the Student Council to protect the Mysterious "Rose Bride."

The art is great and so is the music. The story is very strange and draws on a girl who wants to be a prince. In doing so, she must duel against many of her school peers to win the princess’ heart and protect her. It just doesn’t make any sense to me… I found the story very slow and not worth watching. I suggest you not watch this seeing that you may be wasting your time and money! Put it this way… I bought it before renting and now I’m stuck with it and no one will take it off my hands.
Sea-Trixie outDated but very nice - XTRUClerk
I don't know if it's my TV, but the animation here looked a little washed out to me. Quality asside, I'm enjoying the show as a whole. The characters are interesting as is the story. Plenty of cliches, including the girl wearing a boy's uniform and all the girls falling in love with her. The animation style is dated but not to the point where it's distracting. The series is helped a lot by the style, which features flowered frames around the characters and a narration by shadow puppets. There's also a lot of good music. I usually don't like these older series', they look so bad compared to the newer stuff being produced these days, but this one is worth having a look. Cheers. It's good - ceegee
but it has very little in common with the manga, except the characters (and introduces a few new characters). There is not enough interplay between Utena and Anthy or Utena and Touga, but it is ok for pre-teen or tween girls. The animation is pretty standard and with 7 episodes on this disk I was expecting more to happen
