Rising Sun
Based on Michael Crichton's provocative bestseller, this "smart, engrossing and electrically charged" thriller (Joanna Langfield, The Movie Minute) is as entertaining as it is thought provoking.
A special liason officer investigates the murder of a call girl in the boardroom of a Japenese corporation. Accompnied by a detective with unusual knowledge of the Japanese culture, the two men must unravel the mystery behind the murder by entering an underground "shadow world" of futuristic technology, ancient ways and confusing loyalties

Suspense thriller that goes weirdly flat - moviemonger
What should have been a tense political thrilling blockbuster, ends up a wasted effort with a limp storyline that once again fails to give the book justice. Rising Sun is yet another book-to-movie conversion that loses something in the translation. Despite the always-welcome presence of Sean Connery, the film fails to satisfy completely. There are a few too many plot holes and logical errors. Rising Sun may be solidly-paced, but not all aspects of the production are as successful.Good adaptation of a very good novel. - Beak
Sean Connery is at his best in this film as a senior investigator assigned to a high profile killing of a young women
The film gives insight into Japanese business practices.
It is not so much an action film as a suspense/mystery movie and overall, I really enjoyed it.
The quality of the Blu ray transfer was very good,8/10Quite disappointing, all things considered - Coconut_Willy
Based on a Michael Crichton best-seller, featuring an impressive cast of good action film movies and with a pretty good director at the helm, great expectations are unavoidable. In the end, this is a pretty good movie but it certainly falls short of everyone's hopes. Not having read the book, I can't say if it's true to it or not but I thought the storyline was not explained well enough in the film. There are a few flashbacks that don't seem to lead anywhere as well as a number of sub-plot elements. The only thing I really liked about this film is the Sean Connery character and his understanding of Japanese culture. The cast is very good but doing a rather average acting job with a well written dialogue and what should have been interesting characters. The sets and locations are very good, the soundtrack is good as well as the camera work. Overall, average crime thriller that should have been much better.
