This movie launched Tom Cruise into the spotlight and he hasn't looked back since. You have to know that if you leave your teen aged son for any length of time to look after the house, there's gonna be trouble. Thankfully he's industrious and isn't afraid of a little risk. With his hallmark dance to Old Time Rock and Roll, you gotta know it's gonna be fun.Hot potato - movie_goer

Ahh the suburban reality. Every element is accurately recreated and perfectly placed. This is what keeps this film fresh.
Everyone in this production hit their understated note; it puts a pulse in the neighbourhood. Giving three dimensions to an otherwise two dimensional story. Which is: Get laid so your friends will be impressed. Get away from your parents so you can depress from being oppressed. But if you live the life of the WASP suburbanite you know this , and if you don't... well, now you can watch it and laugh. It's like being a Kennedy, but on a smaller budget.
