Rites of Passage
A father and his two sons are about to spend a weekend in hell...
The Farrady men are men with secrets. And when all of them end up at the family's mountain getaway unexpectedly, one of those secrets turn deadly in this unique and chilling thriller from writer/director Victor Salva (Powder).
Cambell (Jason Behr: Roswell, Dawson's Creek) his father Del (Dean Stockwell: AirForce One, Blue Velvet) and his brother D.J. (Robert Glenn Keith: Death In Venice California) find themselves fighting for their lives in a single night of surprises and terror when two strange men (James Remar :48 Hours, Boys on the Side) and Jaimz Wolvett (The Unforgiven, Dead Presidents) walk out of the forest asking for help.
But help is not what they are looking for and their sinister agenda brings up old wounds and resentments between father and song-pitting them against each other as Del realizes his rabid homophobia may be pushing his youngest boy into the arms of a much darker and deadlier father.

Ho-boy! This movie is so disappointing. The supporting cast was actually pretty good, but both leads--Jason Behr and Dean Stockwell—never get past one-note performances; Behr’s is one long, sustained, smoldering pout and Stockwell’s is all volatile rage. And what a shame, because the premise, a young gay boy looking, in all the wrong places, for the love and acceptance he never got from his father, just has so much potential. As for the title, I totally didn’t get which rites where exercised in which passage. The whole thing is a confused mess.just alright - surfer
I'd give this 2 1/2 stars if I could. It's an adequate but fairly predictable family drama/thriller. That combination is a bit odd and in a way this feels like two films jammed together with neither one getting the development deserved.
Good performances by Dean Stockwell and Jason Behr can't elevate the material to make for a film I would strongly recommend. It's not that bad, but not very good either.
Although Behr's character is gay, this isn't really a G&L drama (if that's what you're expecting given the Zip classification). It's really more of a generic crime thriller.Great movie! - Grovester
A man discovers his father has been having an affair behind his mother's back the two of them decide to spend some time together to talk things out. They drive to the remote family cabin where he spent his holidays as a boy. What neither expects is that DJ's estranged gay brother Campbell will already be there, apparently planning a weekend retreat with his boyfriend. But father and sons are forced to put aside their issues with each other when two escaped convicts show up and put everyone's lives in danger. From here the story takes an interesting turn as the well-hidden family secrets start bubbling to the surface. I wasn't expecting a whole lot in terms of character development from director Victor Salva (Jeepers Creepers, Powder, The Nature of the Beast) but I am happy to report that it was a really well-made and entertaining piece of cinema. The way the two brothers relate to each other and to their seemingly cold-hearted father was pretty fascinating and made for an intriguing development in the plot . I even had to wipe a little tear off my face by the end of the movie. All round great acting and directing. It's good to see that low budget movies don't have to sacrifice plot, talent or cinematography when the right people are behind the production.
