Robocop
"The Best Action Movie Of The Year!" -Los Angeles Times
There's a new law enforcer in town... and he's half man, half machine! From the director of Total Recall and Basic Instinct comes a "sci-fi fantasy with sleek, high powered drive" (Time) about an indestructible high-tech policeman who dishes out justice at every turn!
When a good cop (Peter Weller) gets blown away by some ruthless criminals, innovative scientists and doctors are able to piece him back together as un unstoppable crime-fighting cyborg called "Robocop." Impervious to bullets and bombs, and equipped with high-tech weaponry. Robocop quickly makes a name for himself by cleaning up the crime-ridden streets of violence-ravaged Detroit. But despite his new hardened exterior, Robocop is tormented by scraps of memory of his former life, and relives vivid nightmares of his own death at the hands of the vicious killers. Now he is out to seek more than just justice... he wants revenge!
"Fast, furious and entertaining" (L.A. Daily News), Robocop is a fiercely paced action film" (Screen International) that doesn't let up on the thrills.

Listen, I was like everyone else who grew up in the '80s: I loved Robocop as a child. However, revisiting the film recently was a little bit eye-opening. It's still funny, and still fitfully entertaining, but it's also rather slow by today's standards. Further, Verhoeven's typical points about American totalitarianism are not exactly as incisive as they once were -- in fact, he really bested himself with his later work, Starship Troopers. As only the 1980's could deliver. - filmgeek
This is a very fun movie. It satirizes the materialism of the 1980's, and at the same time, is a fantastic comic-book style movie.
Peter Weller is perfect as the cyborg cop, who goes after the criminals that killed his original self.
The villains are pure, delightful, melodrama. They are so over the top that you can't get tired of them.
This is not a movie for all tastes though, it is very violent, and very gory. That being said, the gore is so exagerated that it is difficult to take seriously, which only adds to the fun of hte film.
Highly Recommended.Satire perfectly mixed in with some terrific action. - estefan
Paul Verhoeven allows RoboCop to be provided with a terrific amount of satire and wit that allows it to become more than just your standard science-fiction action film. Of course, it is also helped that the action is excellently directed and the actors do a great over-the-top job in their roles. The script is smart and filled with many funny moments and whip-snappy lines that really help sell the film as one of the best '80s action flicks. On a technical level, it also works tremendously and best of all, it never once gets tiring.
