Rollerball is an extremely ficticious movie of a derivative of the sport "Roller Derby" that takes place in various Asian/Eastern European countries. Players must throw a metal ball into 1 of two tubes while trying to avoid the other team who is also in pursuit of the ball. Most players are on rollerblades but there is also the addition of a player on a motorcycle. The movie takes a turn when the players realize that the owners will do anything and everything to receive good worldwide television ratings.
The movie from start to finish is packed with action. There is also a very interesting scene at night that was shot using night vision. (come to find out later that it was due to bad lighting and not enough money to reshoot the scenes). Jean Reno plays an over-zealous Russian owner of the team that the main characters Chris Klein and LL Cool J play for. Mixed in with the main characters are other foreigners that make up the team in this extreme sport. The most notable teammate being Rebecca Romijn who plays Mystique on X-men.
This movie received horrible reviews from the website IMDB.com from other viewers. I did not think that it deserved the score on the website but at the same time I admit that it wasn't the greatest movie. If you can get over the fact of a fake sport and fake Russian accents then you may be able to enjoy the movie. I thought that it was an original idea and enjoyable to sit through.
