Rookie Of The Year
"Two Thumbs Up..." Siskel & Ebert
The ultimate fantasy for a Little Leaguer comes true and a whole city is electrified with baseball fever in actor/director Daniel Stern's "grand slam for baseball fans of all ages!" (WBAI Radio)
When the cast is removed from his broken arm, clumsy 12-year-old Henry Rowengartner (Thomas Ian Nicholas) is shocked to find his arm has become a 100-mile-per-hour thunderbolt. His throw from the bleachers directly to home plate alerts the last place Chicago Cubs and before you can shout "play ball!" he is signed as their new ace pitcher. With a few pointers from an aging star pitcher (Gary Busey), young Henry actually manages to pull off the impossible.
Daniel Stern co-stars in this winning stand-up-and-cheer tale about one boy's dream.

Great kids movie - zipper2010
I remember watching this movie as a kid and thinking how cool it would be if something like this actually happened to me...haha. I wouldn't say it's as good as "Sandlot" or "Angels in the Outfield", but it's still a good baseball-related kids movie. They were smart to base it around the Cubs as well. I don't know exactly why the Cubs are such an attractive team to be a fan of, but I kind of like them myself...haha.Great Family Flick - Ashley
The Chicago Cubs, World Series champs? Ha! It must be a movie. This one brings out the kid in me. Even with some technical inaccuracies, some gimmicky jokes thrown in for kids, and a tiny bit of overacting, the movie is too charming to put down. It realizes every kid's dream of being famous, while still including themes about friendship and growing up and mostly avoiding the cheesiness. Even the adult characters get their own moments, giving parents and my more mature self a little something to enjoy.
