Signs
It's Happening.
From M. Night Shyamalan, the writer/director of The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, comes the story of the Hess family in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. One morning they wake up to find a 500-foot crop circle in their backyard.
Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) and his family are told extraterrestrials are responsible for the sign in their field. They watch the news as crop circles are soon found all over the world.
Signs is an emotional story of one farm as they encounter the possibility the world is being invaded.
"It's easy for a filmmaker to blow up the world - but what Shyamalan does is much riskier. He tries to blow our minds. I was engaged by every inch of Signs." -Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper

just plain fun, what it may lack in realism, it more than makes up for in mystery and sheer atmosphere! The monsters look really real even though they were done in full cgi because they are subtle! It was also a very funny written movie that was unexpected.Swing away - hilkayaker
I really like this movie. This is one of my fav M. Night Smymalian movies. The premise is fun and how all the "signs" come together to finish off the movie nicely. Abigail Breslin is so adorable. She is a great actress, at a young age and later on. Cory Culkin looks so much like his brother and has a promising start as well. Mel Gibson and Joaquin Pheonix are amazing as always. Definately a fun movie to watch.Like A Well Told Campfire Ghost Story - cathyottawa
I agree fully with Mud_Song's well put review - if you let this movie sweep you up, you're in for an edge of your seat, tension filled ride.
Is it flawless? No. Was all of the alien stuff 100% plausible? No. But I loved how the tension built slowly. I loved how this film didn't rely on any big special effects, but instead understood that what you don't see is usually far more terrifying than what you do.
It does have a Hitchcockian vibe. It is creepy. And it is fun .... if you're willing to go with it.
The two child actors, Rory Culkin and Abigail Breslin, are both outstanding. Mel Gibson is quite good in a type of role he doesn't often play.
I, too, could have done without the whole "faith" message, and I didn't find it plausible that a reverend would become an athiest immediately because his wife died. But that's a pretty small part of the film.
This is just a simple spine tingler done well.
