Better in French? - imagination201
Well, I remember watching this movie in English once, and being disappointed by it. However, I just watched it in French and, truly, I was surprised by how much more lively and entertaining it was. The artwork and the challenges are really creative, and the challenges barely give the characters a break before they hit them one after the other. I really liked that.
However, what was different in the French version was the voice acting. It was better, somehow, and that's a rare occurence for me.
Anyway, it is better than I first thought.Hit-or-miss animated feature. - estefan
Despite some solid action and some good voice work, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (DreamWorks' last hand-drawn animated film) doesn't quite soar. To start off, the action sequences prove to be entertaining romps as they manage to success where the more dialogue-driven scenes seem to falter. Whenever the film starts to slow down and follow every animated feature cliche in the book, the action scenes allow it to be pick up some speed. The voice-work is also very good. Brad Pitt makes Sinbad a likable main character and Catherine Zeta-Jones provides some good chemistry. Michelle Phfiffer is the best in the cast though, bringing a lot of life to her villainous character and the film is definitely at its best when she's on-screen. There are also some funny moments spread throughout, mainly involving Sinbad's crew. Elsewhere, the film doesn't quite fly. As I said before, you know exactly where the film will go as you can pretty much pint-point exactly which direction they go before even starting the film. The use of computer-generated imagery also proves to be a major distraction at times, particularly at points where you wonder why they needed to make a CGI model when something hand-drawn would have fit better and more seamlessly. The ending also proves to be a major disappointment and the filmmakers sort of end the film with a whimper rather than a bang. In conclusion, it's somewhat moderately entertaining, but it's too flawed to be considered more than an average romp.Don't expect an epic. - Roosta
The ultimate cartoon can be enjoyed by both parents and children alike. When you find a movie that both have little interest in re-watching, you know it's not the cream of the crop. I have a hard time believing the "Two Thumbs Up!" came from Ebert & Roeper, but what do critics know :P
It's ok, let's leave it at that.
