Slam Dance
"A slick thriller with a dazzling cast!" -Los Angeles Times
An all-star cast-including Tom Hulce (Amadeus), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (The Perfect Storm), Virginia Madsen (The Haunting), Adam Ant (Nomads) and Harry Dean Stanton (The Green Mile)-enlivens the stark stylishness of this "stunning, cold neo-punk tale of murder and madness (Los Angeles Times)!
Underground L.A. artist C.C. Drood (Hulce) courts danger and excitement when he beings an illicit affair with a high-class call girl (Madsen). But he gets more than he bargains for when she is found dead in his home, and he's being framed for murder! Now, pursued by crooked cops and with nowhere to turn, Drood makes a desperate attempt to reclaim his life...and stay alive!

Slam dance is, put simply, a disjointed story with no clear direction. Any good murder mystery has a "red herring", but the "scarlet whale" of the Slam Dance plot made me want to spit at the screen. Too many cliche gimmicks done with no real development made this film more frustrating than satisfying, though it's always good to see Virginia Madsen in a movie -- it's too bad most of the time she's given roles where she could just call in the performance.
