Sleepers
Four friends have made a mistake that will change their lives forever.
The judicial system is supposed to protect them. But when a youthful prank in New York's Hell's Kitchen spins out of control, the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Sentenced to the Wilkinson School for Boys, four pals are mistreated at will by a cadre of sadistic guards. Now, 15 years later, they have an unexpected opportunity to use that system-for revenge. Friendship. Loyalty. Retribution. From its telltale opening lines to its stunning courtroom climax, Sleepers is spellbinding entertainment. With a vengeance.

Must See - LOPI
The pedigree of this movie (Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffman, Minnie Driver et al, Barry Levinson directing) is enough to make this movie a must see for any film buff. Levinson handles the subject (sexual abuse of kids) without his usual schmaltz and every performance is nuanced just right. Kevin Bacon probably used this performance as a springboard to the even more disturbing Woodsman, both courageous roles to take on.Jaw-dropping storyline! - Cricri7
Sleepers in based on a book by the same name by the author Lorenzo Carcaterra. It is controversial because it tells a story, modified so the persons involved can't be identified, about 4 young boys sent to juvie who were sexually abused by their guards. When they were growned up, 2 of them killed on the guard. The 2 others, a DA and a journalist, succeed in getting them off at their trial. The book, as it always is, was much better than the movie because it contains more details. I read it many years ago and could not put it down.
The movie is made up of excellent actors. There is not a weak link nowhere. All the principal and supporting actors are incredible. I had seen the movie many years ago and I enjoyed very much seeing it again. Everyone should zip this movie!Dangerous subject matter beautifully handled - Radio_Jane
This was maybe one of the best dramas I have ever seen. I loved De Niro's performance as well as Patric and Hoffman's. Even with such dark subject matter there are some funny moments, and the plot holds you all the way through from beginninng to tragic end. This movie deals with some pretty disturbing subject matter (molestation, gang warfare and drug use), so it is not for everyone, but if you can stomach that, and appreciate a truly well done film, try this one.
