Gary Mitchell's mutating ESP abilities threaten the safety of his ship, Kirk must make an agonizing decision: maroon Mitchell on a desolate planet or kill him while he still can. However, as one friendship dies, another is just beginning..
The Corbomite Maneuver:(Episode 3)
While on a star charting mission, the Enterprise encounters a luminescent, radioactive cube. When Kirk is forced to destroy it, an enormous ship of pulsating lights appears, commanded by the ominous Balok (Clint Howard). Balok condemns the Enterprise crew to death, and seeing no escape, Kirk chances a desperate bluff. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy debuts in this episode and the beloved triad of Kirk's episode and the beloved of Kirk's leadership, Spock's logic, and McCoy's humanity is now complete.

I was looking forward to feeling all warm and fuzzy about this , a show I watched when I was a kid, but it all seemed quite embarrassingly hokey as an adult. Dialogue, acting, story lines, all weak. Nostalgia night material only, I'm afraid. There were better efforts made in the later series I think, but...it's nice to watch without the commercials, at least. The One That Started It All... - Captain_Kirk
The episodes are on TV, on VHS and now DVD. No other TV series has influenced so many generations and spawned so many spinoffs. You can not count how many tv first happened on this show. They really pushed what was acceptable on TV at that time. Love them as much now, as I did the first time way back then. Always imitated, but never eclipsed. Watch and you will not regret it.Two classic early episodes - Jason_Harlow
Where No Man Has Gone Before:(Episode 2)
The Enterprise is pursuing a transmission from a distress beacon left by the S.S. Valiant, an Earth ship lost over 200 years earlier when it tried to leave the Galaxy. But when Kirk leads the Enterprise through that Giant Pink Energy Barrier At The Edge Of The Galaxy, some explosions take place and a couple of crew members get enhanced ESP and brain powers. In fact, the helmsman and Kirk's friend, Gary Mitchel, gets so enhanced that he wants to take over the Enterprise! How can Kirk stop Gary before he gets too powerful?
The dillema here is that Gary gets these extra powers dumped on him without asking for it. Spock (Kirk's logical side) tells him that to save the ship he's got to either maroon Gary or kill him while he can. Dr. Daner (Kirk's emotional and compassionate side, later replaced by Dr. McCoy) says maybe Gary's new powers could be a wonderful thing and to have a heart. Kirk hesitates, and Gary grows even stronger. He begins making coffee cups fly across the room and killing off crew members who might get in his way. Kirk notes that he has been granted god-like powers, but still has human frailties. He admits to Daner that we all have a dark, ugly side which we hide. But when you are all-powerful and without peers, you no longer have to hide it. That's why absolute power corrupts absolutely.
[ Note: This episode is actually the successful pilot; it's the first Star Trek ever filmed with Captain Kirk in it. There are some differences: no Dr. McCoy, no Shatner Monolog during the opening credits, Kirk's name is "James R. Kirk" instead of "James T. Kirk", and Spock says that "one of his ancestors married an Earth woman." (Later we find out that would be his dad..)]
The Corbomite Maneuver:(Episode 3)
The Enterprise is exploring an uncharted region of space when it encounters a space-buoy which blocks their path. After trying to communicate with it for while, Kirk blows it away and keep
