State Of Grace
The Irish Mob In New York
New York City's "Hell's Kitchen" is a pressure cooker of pent-up anger... and it's about to explode! Sean Penn, Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright, John Turturro and John C. Reilly deliver "exceptional performances" (The Hollywood Reporter) in this "finely drawn tale of betrayal, redemption and guilt" (Los Angeles) that'll put you "on the edge of your seat" (Newsweek)!
Terry Noonan (Penn) returns to his old neighborhood with a score to settle. He's now an undercover cop dead-set on taking down an Irish mob family headed by Frankie Flannery (Harris) and his hot-headed brother Jackie (Oldman). But when Noonan infiltrates the family, his old feelings for the Flannerys' sister (Wright) further heighten the stakes as he enters a violent showdown with them during a crowded St. Patrick's Day Parade!

Good, but no Carlito - lambert41
This was a very good film starring a fantastic and marginally known Gary Oldman who owns the stand out performance. I find it hard to believe that Robin Wright couldn't find work when she hooked up with Penn. She is great in the film as well.
All that said, you cannot compare this with Carlitos Way. Based on a true stry, Carlito stars Pacino in his best role other than Dog Day and Penn is better than this film as well. So let's take it easy and enjoy this film for what it was, not what it will never be.Come on now. - THeide
There's simply no question. Watch the movie. It's a gangster flick...let the girlfriend to go to bed and open a bottle of Scotch. One of the classic gangster flicks of it's generation, it presents you with the classic tale of ethnic strife found in Hell's Kitchen, during the great immigration movement. While soft in subtle emotional aspects, the film does present the idealized persona of the particular immigrant strata... There....did I fill out my 250 characters? I was pretty much done after "Watch the movie".Entertaining & Enjoyable - nbwords
If you like mobster thrillers/ crime drama then this one is for you. While the plot may be a little bit predictable, this movie is still a pleasure to watch because the cast is superb. Sean Penn is brilliant as always. Ed Harris is absolutely chilling as Frankie. Gary Oldman is completely unrecognizable as the out-of-control younger Flannery brother. Even Robin Wright-Penn delivers the goods in this one. And with a supporting cast that includes the likes of John C. Reilly, John Turturro, Burgess Meredith and many more, this is a film to buy and add to your collection.
