Stigmata
The Messenger Must Be Silenced.
A lost soul has just received the wounds of Christ...and a shocking message that will alter history. Stunning performances from Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) and Jonathan Pryce (Ronin) and a cutting edge score by Billy Corgan of "The Smashing Pumpkins" and Elia Cmiral make Sitgmata "a visual and visceral feast" (Entertainment Today).
Frankie Paige (Arquette) has absolutely no faith in God. All of that changes when she suddenly begins to suffer the Stigmata - the living wounds of the crucified Christ. Frankie's miraculous bleeding comes to the attention of the Vatican's top investigator, Father Kiernan (Byrne). But when Cardinal Houseman (Pryce), discovers that Frankie is actually channeling an extraordinary and provacative message that could destroy the Church, he's convinced that she - and the force possessing her - must be forever silenced. Determined to stop this deadly conspiracy, Kiernan risks his faith - and his life - to save her and the message that will change the destiny of mankind forever.

Great storyline... until the end - Quindog
As a fella whose fav movie all-time is The Exorcist, I suppose my opinion might be a tad biased. Keep that in mind as you read on.
I gave it 4 stars but I think 3.5 would be fairer.
The intertwined stories; who/what is behind the Stigmata, why the Vatican wants to curb it, and how the unreligious target came to be, work well due to a great storyline. This, along with Gabriel Byrne's performance as the Vatican's scientific investigator, are what make this film.
Personally, I thought the ending was weak (but I won't give anything away). I watched it on cable and thus didn't have the advantage of the uncut/alternate ending version, which I am led to believe is likely better.
The film has just a bit of a made-for-TV feel to it, but overall, was an intelligent enough story to easily keep my attention.
If you are fan of this genre of movies, I would easily recommend it to you. If you are familiar with (the mystery of) the St. Thomas Scrolls, then it's a must see.WOW - What a Ride - Old_Video_Man
From the opening credits, this is a by-God spellbinder with action right to the end. Gabriel Byrne is outstanding as a priest, looking for evidence of miracles and demonic possession. Patricia Arquette, the star of TV's Medium, is excellent as an average individual, but then ravaged one at a time, by Stigmata, the same wounds suffered by Christ. The plot twists a bit with some devious Vatican involvement by Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Houseman.
Dis this film get mediocre reviews because it was a mediocre product, or because it showed some flaws in the underpinning of the Catholic Church, as did "The DaVinci Code"? You be the judge when you Zip this fine movie.hits the spot - Ghosthunterwa
While I'm not religious in any form or way. I find this movie refreshing for several reasons. I have seen both the theatrical version and the Uncut version. My suggestion, to get a feel for the whole movie, what the uncut version. It's the better one.
This movie had almost everything I desired in a movie, Action- however small it may be), fear, drama, horror and much more. Don't take my word for it, watch it. It's one messed up movie that focuses on what could happen if we just opened our eyes.
