Sudden Impact
Deluxe Edition
Sensitive to outcries of police brutality, San Francisco Detective Harry Callahan's bosses send him on an out-of-town assignment until events cool down. But wherever Harry goes, things just get hotter. Clint Eastwood scores again in Harry's fourth film (which he also directs), tracking a traumatized rape victim (Sondra Locke) who coldly guns down her bygone attackers - and, as secrets come to light, starts striking an empathetic chord in the pursuing lawman.

I have mixed feelings about the fourth Dirty Harry film. The heart of the story about a female serial killer who herself was victimized produces a strong dramatic dynamic to the standard cop whodunit. The plot twists even further as Callahan gets to know his emotionally wounded suspect without the faintest idea about her background and agenda. There were, however, a number of aspects to this film that bothered me. The producers may have wanted a different angle, but I didn't care for Harry leaving San Fran for a resort town, the cliché tough cop looking after an unkempt dog, and a flimsy ending that even the yokel resort town cop should have been able to shoot full of holes.Certainly not the best. - Steenbeckchigur
Clint Eastwood returns yet again as "Dirty" Harry Callahan in the fourth instalment of a film series that by this point is considerably bloated.
Although a lot of fun with its excessive violence and over the top machismo, Sudden Impact looses site of what made the original Dirty Harry and its sequel so entertaining and relevant. This film seems like a cliche of a cliche, and as fun as watching Eastwood scowl and every seen by saying "swell" as he winks at the audience; its hard to really get anything out of this picture.Dirty Harry - Part 4 - A Nice Fellow With A Huge... If you are a fan of Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood), and you already saw the previous two sequels, then "Sudden Impact" will come as a pleasant surprise. It may lack the novelty and newness of previous episodes, but the movie is directed, competently, by Eastwood himself. The screenplay is quite good, and original, for the time, providing a strong role for Sondra Locke, who was Clint's squeeze for a number of years.
Filmed on location, in Northern California, the film looks good as well.
All in all, it's a worthwhile action/suspense movie like the ones Clint Eastwood has made over the past 50 years. I give it one firm thumb up.
