This delightfully entertaining romantic comedy stars Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde) as sophisticated Melanie Carmichael, a rising New York clothing designer who suddenly finds herself engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor. But this is no fairy tale romance for Melanie. She has skeletons in her fashion-filled closet that include Jake-the backwoods husband she married in high school who refuses to divorce her. Determined to end their marriage and sever all ties with her past once and for all, Melanie returns to Alabama. But home starts to tug at her heartstrings, and what she thought she wanted may not be what she wants at all.

It has a couple of "actual laugh out loud" moments. The hound dog is cool. As far as chick-flicks go, it's very easily bearable. I may have enjoyed it more than my wife, though neither of us would say it is great. It's just fun and not a waste of time like so many romantic comedies.Formulaic But Still Enjoyable - newdaysof
Sweet Home Alabama is slightly predictable and formulaic but it is still entertaining to watch.
Small town girl moves to big city and becomes successful, but when she returns, she finds she is more country than city. And the first husband she thought she ditched is still single (surprise, surprise) and they re-kindle their romance.
The film works because of the great cast of characters played by wonderful actors and actresses, high-quality production values, great settings (both NYC and rural) and great music. More than a couple of good laughs along the way and southern rednecks able to make fun of themselves. Overall, a nice film.Sweet Reese - 0930tracey
Another hit romantic comedy for Reese Witherspoon. I loved this movie! Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas were dreamy and the supporting cast was hilarious. The story was so cute and actually believable. I could watch this over and over. I highly recommend Sweet Home Alabama!!!
