Tears of the Sun
He Was Trained To Follow Orders. He Became A Hero By Defying Them.
Loyal veteran Navy S.E.A.L. Lt. A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis) is sent into the heart of war-torn Africa on a hazardous assignment to rescue Dr. Lena Hendricks (Monica Bellucci), a U.S. citizen who runs a mission. When the beautiful doctor refuses to abandon the refugees in her care, Lt. Waters finds himself having to choose between following orders and the dictates of his own conscious. Together, they begin a dangerous trek through the deadly jungle, all the while being pursued by a rebel militia group, with only one goal in mind: to assassinate Lt. Waters' unit and the refugees in his care.

Bruce Willis is Navy SEAL Lt. A.K. Waters, sent to civil war wracked Nigeria to rescue Americans in a missionary hospital. Dr. Lena Kendricks (Monica Bellucci) refuses to leave unless a number of refugees are also saved as they face certain, horrible death otherwise. The ensuing conflict between duty and humanitarian impulses is unfortunately not explored fully, and the movie slowly degenerates into standard, if competent, action fare.to do something... - Tournesole
A spectacular view of an horrible fact of life. there has been genocides of all sorts of nation since the world began. But it is the first time that we feel like we are at the front row to see the real truth of the horrors that are created at the hands of men, but the nobility of some as well. A twisted, conflicted story, very good cast of Bruce Willis. He does the best conflicted human I've ever seen on the screen. He has his men follow him willingly into hell. These guys have seen a lot, but never lost their humanity. You get to see them at their best. A bit of unecessary indulgence with the Africans. We see them ripped apart . That's anough. God people those missionary. For real.Oddly touching. - heatherc
I wasn't sure what kind of movie this would be when it arrived. Action, drama, brutal violence...you get all of that, I suppose, but also some incredibly beautiful shots. The story is oddly touching, despite the brutal nature of the subject matter.
I think movies like this represent a new kind of war movie - one that explores the civilian experience of war, even when it is from a military context.
I don't know that this will become the film that embody the genre, but it certainly helps to define it.
