Texas
An Epic As Big As The Land That Shaped It.
Based on the epic best-seller by Pulitzer Prize-winner James A. Michener, Texas is a sweeping, larger-than-life saga of the heroic men and women who dreamed of new lives in an untamed land - and who fought to make those dreams come true. A powerful cast stars in this unforgettable account of courage, passion and sacrifice that forged a nation-sized state on the American frontier.
The year us 1821. The vast, unsettled territory that will one day be known as Texas still belongs to Mexico. But the forces that will shape the future of this sprawling land have already been set in motion. It begins with Mexico's infamous and brutal General Santa Anna and explodes into an armed revolt waged by such legendary names as the fiery and headstrong Sam Houston (Stacy Keach), Stephen Austin (Patrick Duffy), the Father of Texas and the immortal heroes of the Alamo: Davy Crockett (Jeff Schneider) and Jim Bowie (David Keith). This all-star cast also includes Maria Conchita Alonso (The House of Spirits, Predator 2), Benjamin Bratt (Demolition Man, Shadowhunter), Chelsea Field (Andre, The Last Boy Scout), Anthony Michael Hall (Six Degrees Of Separation, Edward Scissorhands), Grant Show (Treacherous Crossing), Randy Travis (Young Guns) and Rich Schroder (Lonesome Dove) as "Otto." Set against the thrilling backdrop of America's turbulent frontier, Texas weaves a dazzling, epic tapestry of conflict romance and adventure. It's the story of an inspiring fight for freedom and statehood - and of the soldiers, settlers, outlaws and empire-builders caught up in their young homeland's stormy quest to fulfill its extraordinary destiny!

How The Lonestar State Came To Be - bwod
Based on a novel by James Michener, "Texas" recounts the early history of Texas, from the early 1800's to its independence some 40 years later. Weaving fictitious characters into well-documented historical facts, the story tries to show how common people and legendary heroes created a state that would adopt principles already entrenched in the United States constitution. An all-star cast makes this teleplay watchable, but it tends to be a bit melodramatic at times. Never-the-less, it's quite enjoyable. One firm thumb up.
