The Beach
"A Fascinating And Exotic Adventure." -Jeff Craig, Sixty Second Preview
"Leonardo DiCaprio is electrifying" (David Sheehan, CBS-TV) in this adrenaline-drenched, tantalizingly seductive thriller from the director of Trainspotting.
Richard (DiCaprio), a young American backpacker, is willing to risk his life for just one thing: that mind-blowing rush you can only get from braving the ultimate adventure. But on a secret, deceptively perfect beach, Richard will discover that "heaven on earth" can instantly change into a jungle of seduction and danger.
Co-starring sexy newcomer Virginie Ledoyen, this "journey to the unexpected, full of surprises, twists and turns, love and romance, lust and desire" (Maris Sallas, GEMS) explores the hidden perils and dark places that lurk just beyond the shores of paradise...

Leonardo di Caprio is looking for a huge rush and is willing to push life to its limits. As he is tipped off about a "secret beach" he sets off with a french couple in search of adventure. He finds paradise can quickly turn to hell as he witnesses severe injuries, starvation and even death. This movie had its weird turns but was interesting. I probably wouldn't watch it again but wouldn't dissuade someone from watching it the first time. One of my favorites! - Rachy007
I loved this movie as much as I loved the book.
The peaceful idea of a community driven society where everyone is responsible for everyone (ideal communism?)and everyon e is happy and thier needs are simple and basic and MET and where people live in perfect harmony. That's Heaven on Earth to me and this movie gives life to that fantasy. But, even an escape to paradise has it's consequences as is revealed though this story of escapism and communalism.
The imagery is breath taking and the actors bring the characters alive through believable performances.
I have often considered just disappearing but this film is eye opening tale of humanity and society as a whole. No matter where you go, there you are...Own It! - vivil
I will be the first to admit that the duality of utopia versus dystopia may be a little played out. However, the visual appeal of this film more than makes up for any slightly played out plot lines (not that there are many!). I feel as though the movie is very well casted, and I will even go a step further and say that it is one of DiCaprio's better roles. Additionally, the music is superb- something also well worth owning. Alex Garland's book is nothing but complimented by the execution of this movie.
