The Big Hit
Nothing's more dangerous than some nice guys...with a little time to kill.
The criminal anarchy is hilarious when a foursome of full-time hit men looking to score extra cash kidnap the boss' goddaughter. And when beleaguered wise guy Mel is set up to take the fall, underworld antics and domestic absurdities collide for a working weekend no one will soon forget. Mark Wahlberg, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bokeem Woodbine, and Antonio Sabato, Jr. star in this explosive comedy.

The Big Flop - McGuffin
Terrible waste of time and talent, as Wahlberg and Phillips play members of a four-man "working joes" hit squad of contract killers who decide on a free-lance kidnapping - who turns out to be their crime boss's god-daughter - with severe consequences. Uneasy and uneven mix of gore and comedy. Even though the violence is cartoonish, the number of killings seems over the top, and the humour heavy-handed. Scenes of nude beefcake and mini-kilted schoolgirls also seem gratuitous and downright creepy. Non-stop action will appeal to some tastes, but I recommend you consider giving The Big Hit a miss.Predictable yet satifsying. - M.O.D
I can't stand it, when you are in the middle of a shoot out and the video store clerk calls to tell you that your movie is over due. That just grinds my gears!!!!
I had to like this flick because it did not take itself seriously. Although I wanted to strangle Whalberg because his character sucked. If someone were as much of a pushover as Marky then he would deserve to be on the hitlist. Guilty or not. I like Lou Diamond Phillips though. He was a dirty scumbag, but I liked him.
The one liners and the crazy action make this movie worth a rent...not a buy. A RENT!Fun Action and Humor if your not looking for to much - Gregg
Story of a stressed out hit-man (Mark Wahlberg) who wants everyone to like him, his fiancée (Christina Applegate), her parents (Elliot Gould & Lainie Kazan), his mistress (Lela Rochon), his partners (Lou Diamond Phillips, Antonio Sabato Jr, etc), his boss (Avery Brooks) and finally the kidnap victim of his most recent caper (China Chow). Unfortunately most of them use this to take advantage of him, and to make matters worse everything falls apart when the aforementioned victim of the unauthorized kidnapping turn's out to be the bosses’ goddaughter.
Way, way over the top with elements taken from many different films, the most obvious being those of the Hong Kong action genre (popularized by John Woo, who is one of the producers), the films of Quentin Tarantino and the film Grosse Pointe Blank. The film has lots of well choreographed action scenes, lots of humor as it takes shots all sorts of targets and lots of style even if it isn't all it's own.
On the downside it has borrowed from so many previous films that some of the scenes may seem familiar, some of the targets of it humor aren't really that difficult to hit (or politically correct) and have been done before, and there are some glaring continuity issues (intentional?). Still for those in the mood it is very watchable.
The film was directed by Che-Kirk Wong who had previously directed several Jackie Chan films.
Filmed all over Toronto including; lots of skyline shots, the Elgin/Wintergarden theater lobby and Sherbourne street.
