The Black Marble
From the Best-Selling novel by Joseph Wambaugh
Sergeant A.M. Valnikov (Robert Foxworth) is a hard-drinking homicide detective transferred to Hollywood's robbery division. His new partner Natalie Zimmerman (Paula Prentiss) is a hard-nosed divorcee with no patience for burnt-out cops. And "Terrier King" Philo Skinner (Harry Dean Stanton) is a desperate dog groomer who has kidnapped a champion schnauzer for $84,000 in ransom. Together they will track this case through a town of tarnished dreams where crime is never perfect, love is often blind and some people always pick The Black Marble.
Barbara Babcock and Judy Landers co-star in this quirky comedy-drama directed by Harold Becker (Sea of Love, The Onion Field) from a screenplay by Joseph Wambaugh based on his best-selling novel, and featuring cameo appearances by Christopher Lloyd and James Woods.

This romantic dramedy only has a couple moments that could be called comedy and the drama isn't terribly engaging either.
It's just not a very entertaining movie. The emotional highs aren't very high, and the climax isn't anything to write home about either. A dog is kidnapped by some weirdo and a the owner of the dog gets emotional but you never really feel for her. I understand that losing your dog is very sad, as I've felt that myself, but this movie was just mundane with how it went about telling its story.
The direction itself is pretty decent and I did like the lead role was pretty well acted, and indeed, it was the only character with any real depth.
Don't bother getting this movie. It's not the worst thing ever but I can't bring myself to recommend it.
