The Bonfire Of The Vanities
Take one Wall Street tycoon, his Fifth Avenue mistress, a reporter hungry for fame, and the wrong turn in The Bronx.
Sherman McCoy was Wall Street's Master of the Universe - and everything in his life was right. Then one night he took a wrong turn at the wrong place with the wrong woman. And nothing has gone right since.
Tom Hanks as McCoy, Bruce Willis as a jaded journalist, Melanie Griffith as McCoy's self-centered mistress and Morgan Freeman as an outspoken judge ingnite The Bonfire of the Vanities, the quintessential story of the go-for-it '80's. Based on Tom Wolfe's bestseller and directed by Brian DePalma, this freewheeling film pokes hilarious fun at the glitzy Greed Decade. It's a comic circus so outrageous a single spark could start a bonfire!

Terrible satiric movie, perhaps the brothers Coen could have made something of it, I don't know.
Tom Wolfe's novel has been shaped into a trivial, cartoon-style movie by director Brian De Palma. This savage comedy is ridiculous and worst film with Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith I ever saw as well as their characters aren't very interesting.Bad idea - ABC99
Watching Bonfire of the Vanities is watching the collision of bad ideas. Everyone is miscast...Bruce Willis as the ambitious, alcoholic (originally British) reporter, Tom Hanks as a privleged broker, Morgan Freeman as a powerful (originlly Jewish judge).
The move is not funny, though it tries, not insightful, though it thinks it is, and not at all entertaining.
It is a kind of interesting watch if you know your watching a bad film going in. It has a sort of train wreck quality that makes it interestingNot as bad as everyone said! - Cricri7
The bonfire of the vanities got a pretty bum rap when it came out many years ago. The critics jumped on the script and the actors with both feet and said that it was the worst script ever written and that every actor in it was bad. I do not think this is the case here. It may not be the best movie ever made but it still has some redeeming aspects like the black humor in it. American audiences do not react warmly to black humor and it is probably why this movie was so trampled upon.
You can zip it to see all the famous actors...Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks, F. Murray Abraham and superb character actors which make up the rest of the cast.
