The Bridge At Remagen
"Exciting! An impressive cast! Comes to bold life!" -The Hollywood Reporter
An all-star cast - including George Segal, Robert Vaughn, Ben Gazzara and E.G. Marshall - brings all the glory and agony of war to stunning life in this intense and exhilarating, but uniquely human look at a struggle widely regarded as the most strategic coup of World War II. "Excellent special effects, spectacular photography and fine action sequences" (Motion Picture Exhibitor) put you on the front lines of the battle and with the courageous soldiers who fought it.
1945: The Allies are making their final advance into German territory, and only one strategic bridge on the Rhine River remains in Nazi hands. Both sides have much to gain: the Germans, the lives of 50,000 soldiers stationed on the wrong side of the bridge; and the Allies, a quicker end to the war with fewer lives lost. Though both armies would fight valiantly, only one could win the heart-rending battle for The Bridge at Remagen.

For 1969 the year the movie was made, it is at times as realistic a portrayal of war as Saving Private Ryan. It shows the horror of war - the death and dying of young men on both sides.
The movie shows how war objectives change. The Americans at first want to blow up the Remagen Bridge to trap the 75,000 Germans that are still on the west side of the Rhein. The Germans want to blow up the bridge to keep the Americans from entering the heartland of Germany thereby sacrificing as many as 75,000 of their men. But suddenly the Americans have a change of heart. They decide that taking the bridge will help them to get into Germany quicker, end the war sooner and perhaps save 10,000 to 50,000 of their own soldiers. It also show the idiocy of a dictator- ship where they execute their own officers even though they did their duty as well as they could.
One of the most exciting scenes I have ever seen in a war movie is right at the beginning where the Americans race to another bridge across the Rhein intent on capturing it before the Germans can blow it up. A long column of tanks and trucks race along roads firing their guns at the Germans. A good sound system will make it seem like you are really ion the front lines. I enjoyed this movie but I am always saddened by war movies and the horrible way soldiers and civilians died. The Bridge - Rien
A epic war movie with outstanding effects, for the time, and a excellent cast to follow. Its a great story following an American WWII platoon which is ordered to take a bridge, in the middle of battle, in order to save thousands of lives and possibly end a war. The problem is that the men are tired and need a well disserved rest and dont wish to risk their lives to save a bridge that everyone wants to see distroyed. A movie full of courage, hate, and compassion telling the story from both sides of war. A must for all war movie buffs and is highly recommended by myself.
