The Bridge On The River Kwai
When British P.O.W.s build a vital railway bridge in enemy-occupied Burma, Allied commandos are assigned to destroy it in David Lean's epic World War II adventure The Bridge On The River Kwai
Spectacularly produced, The Bridge On The River Kwai captured the imagination of the public and won seven 1957 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Alec Guinness), and Best Director. Even its theme song, an old WWI whistling tune, the "Colonel Bogey March," became a massive wordwide hit. The Bridge On The River Kwai continues today as one of the most memorable cinematic experiences of all time.

What can I say that wasn't epically awesome in the movie? Music, story, acting, location, use of humour, suspense, and emotions all together balanced with a message that really shows the humanity and principles in all cultures, and ultimately goes to show the futility of war. Alec Guiness was fantastic, though the other characters were also splendid.Brilliant Brilliant... and one more Brilliant - Kissfan
This metaphor.... errrr film is a fantastic metaphor. David Lean works fromthe basic premise of war's utter futility. The human race struggles to unite and create and then we organize to destroy... All these metaphors are captured in a simple BRIDGE.
Excellent film. Perfectly crafted. Acted to perfection without excessive drama that was somewhat prevalent in the 50's.
A must SEE...

GREAT MOVIE! 5 STAR and Worthy of it's Academy.A very human view of war. - Jimmy_Jam
The film starts out as the typical good vs. bad war story. But you learn throughout the film that each side is under the influence of their superiors, and neither want to be involved in this struggle. The relationship between Col. Saito and Nicholson is the part of this film that makes it a classic. It mostly revolves around William Holden, but it is Alec Guinness that keeps my attention. His honestly and morality, even in war times, his humanity for his soldiers and the enemies is truely well done and inspiring. He represents hard times, and is the definition of survival. Wonderful film.
