The Bridges Of Madison County
World-traveling National Geographic photographer Robert Kincaid and Iowa housewife Francesca Johnson aren't looking to turn their lives upside down. Each is at a point in life where expectations are behind them. Yet four days after meeting, they won't want to lose the love they've found. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood bring blazing starpower and powerful conviction to the beloved characters of Robert James Waller's rhapsodic bestseller of love, choice and consequence. With luck, a love like this happens to some of us sooner or later. For Robert and Francesca, it was later. And it was glorious.

The 3 stars are for the production value and beautiful cinematography, but I didn't like the story. I could sympathize if Francesca's husband was a jerk, but he was portrayed as a decent man who's worst crime was being boring. She found him pretty exciting when he was a G.I. stationed in Italy, where they met. A relationship isn't going to be exciting 100% of the time. Who gets to have everything in life that they dreamed of? Nobody could live up to that, not even an exciting photographer. She didn't know him long enough to see his negative qualities. So she could always remember Robert in that "grass is always greener" light, and act like she was doing her husband a huge favor by hiding it from him. What if she'd met Robert first, or left her husband for him? Eventually he would have forgotten to put the toilet seat down or asked her to make that meatloaf he liked so much...I guess she'd have to be unfaithful with the next more exciting guy. No wonder she was so unhappy!A Must See!!!! - 0930tracey
This is a movie all women should see at least once. As an avid book reader, I was skeptical to see this film after absolutely loving the book. I have to say, the movie was just as good. There were a few times in this film that I could actually feel Francessca's heart breaking. I bawled my eyes out over the book, and I bawled even more with this movie. This is a movie that will always be at the top of my "Most Romantic" list.O.M.G! - born2bsmrt
This movie functions in multiple different ways. First and most obvious is that of a heartbreakingly real love story. Second is a glimpse into the things our own parents may be hiding from us - if not a torrid, 4 day love affair, then maybe simply their own unhappiness. Third is as a warning to always follow you heart, because only it can lead you to true and lasting happiness.
It broke my heart watching Francesca having to suffer through each day after finally knowing what it is to love with complete abandon. After watching this movie, I vowed to myself to live and love with spontaneity and vigor and to always be happy.
Bravo Eastwood and Streep!
