Great Grisham - Amadeus
This is the best of the Grishem adaptations, chiefly because of the superior acting of then newcomer Brad Renfro, Tommy Lee Jones, and the always brilliant Susan Sarandon.
True, the plot has some holes and the villains come across as uninspired, but the interplay between Sarandon and Jones is always fun to watch, and the sometimes tender scenes between Renfro and Sarandon are surprisingly believable (considering this was Renfro's first role, it is amazing how well he holds his own with Sarandon, one of the greatest talents in film history.)
This movie grabs hold of you from the beginning and really never lets up, with wonderful and memorable scenes throughout--the first meeting between Jones and Sarandon being one of the many standouts. A fun movie that holds up well with repeated viewings--something not that common with thrillers. All the Elements - ShawnConnery
This is an excellently made thriller. Probably one of, if not the, best Grisham adaptation. Great acting all around-Tommy Lee Jones is lovably arrogant, Sarandon is simply amazing, and Renfro is definitely gifted as the protagonist. Showing that you don't need a ton of violence to make a good thriller, the story is the best part of this movie, with plenty of suspense and emotion. Just a little heavy on the language.Best of Grisham - Yogi
If you are going to watch a movie based on a Grisham novel, this is the one to choose. Though no movie is exactly like the book, this is very close. As a movie, it stands up well, with excellent performances by Susan Sarandon and Brad Renfro. Tommy Lee Jones also does well as the slick, camera happy District Attroney.
