The Dead Pool
Deluxe Edition
"You want to play the game, you'd better know the rules, love." - Harry Callahan
Clint Eastwood straps on his holster again for the fifth and final screen case for Callahan, who finds himself on a "death list" of celebrity murder victims. He and his new partner also get ensared in the nuttiest City by the Bay vehicular chase since Bullitt, outracing a bomb-carrying, radio-controlled toy car. Catch future stars Jim Carrey as an ill-fated heavy-metal musician and Liam Neeson as a power-tripping director.

The final Dirty Harry film is my favourite since it encompasses all the best elements of the first four. These films were better off leaving the viewer doubting the identity of the serial killer for as long as possible. While seemingly improbable, the scene where Callahan evades a remote-control car through the streets of San Fran is classic and rivals some of the best car chases in film (i.e., Bullitt, Ronin, etc.). I thought the chemistry between Eastwood and Clarkson was refreshing and she delivered as a strong-willed but mindful love interest. I loved how all five films included (a) Harry chewed out and either demoted or suspended, (b) Harry’s partner placed in perilous or fatal danger, and (c) Harry stopping for coffee at a favourite joint witnessing some crime that requires him to shoot up the whole place. In a clever move, the franchise’s final scene paid homage to the first film by getting you counting the bullets and reminding you that some things just never change.Clint brings the goods. - Doom
By now we all know the formula. Harry's a reckless cop on the edge who plays by his own rules and whose partners don't last much longer than fruit flies. Like the previous "Sudden Impact" this film attempts social commentary on violence in the media, and scoop hungry sensationalist journalism.
All of which is rendered pretty meaningless, and beside the point. We all came to see Clint Eastwood glower his way past all obstacles - and glower he does, delivering his steely glare and deadpan quips with typical aplomb.Last but not least Dirty Harry story - Coconut_Willy
Adding a slasher twist to the series is not a bad thing for a horror fan like me. The predictable martial arts sequence might have been a bit much though. After another extended break from the character, Clint Eastwood returns in what remains to date the last Dirty Harry film. I must say that I did enjoy this one quite a bit as the story is much more elaborate than in previous installments and is well developed with a good suspense escalation and a few interesting twists. The cast is even better than usual with a brief appearance from Jim Carrey, a cameo from Guns 'N' Roses and Liam Neeson in an interesting role. Fine acting job, good dialogue, good soundtrack, excellent sets and locations and good camera work. There are many action sequences and stunts in this one (even a car chase) and they're all well made. Overall a very entertaining movie. If you do not want to watch the whole series, at least watch the original Dirty Harry and this one.
