The Distinguished Gentleman
The hilarious comedy hit about a small-time con man who runs for Congress - and miraculously wins! As Thomas Jefferson Johnson, Murphy hustles his way to the big time and wins an elected seat in the U.S. congress. But that's only the beginning - with the perks and power of his new position, Murphy cons for cash and doesn’t have to break the law to bamboozle the big bucks! You can be sure you'll love it when Eddie Murphy goes to Washington!

While not the best Eddie movie, there are many great moments. The plot is a little absurd, but that Eddie Murphy for you. Like most (or all) of his narritive films, the story is heartwarming, makes you feel good and forget your troubles during the flick. This was probably his last GOOD grownup movie.THE DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN - zippo
ONE OF EDDIE'S BEST FILMS SINCE BEVERLY HILLS COP. MURPHY PLAYS A CON-ARTIST WHO WANTS TO PULL THE BIGGEST CON OF HIS CAREER, AND HIS MARK...THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. ONCE ELECTED INTO CONGRESS HE STARTS TO SEE THE MONEY MACHINE WORKING FOR HIM AND HE WEASLES HIS WAY UP TO THE TOP. MURPHY'S CHARACTER IS DOING SO WELL, HE GETS THROWN FOR A LOOP AND TRIES TO DO THE RIGHT THING. CLASSIC EDDIE MURPHY COMEDY AND THIS MOVIE AND SOME OF THE SCENES ARE SIDE SPLITTINGThe Critics have this one all wrong! - Zollman
This movie came out at a time when Eddie Murphy was struggling at the box office. As a result, I think many critics may have been much too harsh on this flick.
This movie had me laughing at most every turn. Eddie and his cast of cons were all brilliant in their characters. The story seemed plausible enough. Let's face it, if Washington isn't full of con artists then they've elected the wrong people to run their country! Although this was a tongue in cheek portrayal of American politics, there was probably more truth to it than most politicians would like to admit. This is one of those movies that I could watch over and over again. I say watch it and come to your own conclusions.
