The Enforcer
"She wants to play lumberjack. She's going to have to learn to handle her end of the log." - Harry Callahan
Clint Eastwood's third go-round as Det. Harry Callahan matches him with a new partner, Tyne Daly as Inspector Kate Moore, who has two jobs: tracking down a band of armed-and-wacko terrorists - and winning Harry's confidence. Stoked with brisk humor, hard-hitting mayhem and the high-impact team of Eastwood and Daly, this exciting case carves another winning notch in the handle of Harry's .44 magnum.

The third Dirty Harry film unfortunately suffers from a lazy script and a gimmicky finale. Perhaps my ignorance of 1970’s anti-Vietnam sentiment is showing, but I never fully grasped the motivation of the maniacal hippy militia setting San Fran on full alert. I thought the scenes with Harry and his unpetitioned rookie female partner (played by Daly) were the highlight of the film and a classic unsolicited buddy cop relationship repeated in many movies was born. The final battle went over the top with using Alcatraz and converted the plausible into the inexecutable.Prehistoric - Doom
This installment of the Dirty Harry franchise has neither the interesting social commentary of the first film, or the over-the-top shenanigans of the 4ht and 5th films. What it does have are political sentiments that would be embarrassing to a Neanderthal.
I don't know if the film-makers thought giving Harry Callahan a female partner would make them seem more progressive - if that was their intention, they failed. Her character was made completely incompetent, and any attempts to show Harry as an anachronistic mysoginist were countered by the fact that this woman was actually not very good at her job.
Furthermore, the politics and motivations of the bad guys are so vague as to be non-sensical. I guess they're some sort of leftist-terrorists out to overthrow the status quo. If that's so, why do they want money?
This film covers all the offensive bases, actually, because the only black characters in the film are universally portrayed as jive-talkin' street wise Black Panther-esque militants, straight out of a Shaft film - indeed, perhaps capitalising on the blaxploitation craze.
This film doesn't even have any truly entertaining action set pieces to reccomend it, other than the entertainment value (not inconsiderable) of Clint Eastwood's performance. The Enforcer: Dirty Harry 3 Still Entertains - bwod
After two successful outings as Dirty Harry, Clint Eastwood returns for another appearance in "The Enforcer". We all know Harry well enough, and by now, unless you're a die-hard fan, you might want to skip this episode. The movie is good enough to recommend, for his fans, but it just doesn't stack up to the original, or the first sequel, "Magnum Force". If you like Clint Eastwood and his alter-ego, Dirty Harry, rent and enjoy. One thumb up.
