Middle aged girl power - thenewguy
I want to say up front that I was obviously not the target audience for this film. Its bread and butter will likely be middle aged women... possibly divorced and I don't fit into that demographic, so perhaps some of the film's spirit was lost on me. However, I will say that it is very well done.
The movie follows three women who have two things in common: their husbands have left them for younger women and their best friend from school has committed suicide. Despite the subject matter, the film keeps a light beat and the three newly-single women decide to strike back at their former husbands.
Though I found the main characters hard to relate to, I did enjoy the film's theme of age and wisdom overcoming youth and enthusiasm. It's a good movie with some touching character development and some good laughs.Girl Power - Tigger28
Girl Power! This film is the story of three old friends who have lost touch over the years. The death of a communal friend reunites them years later, only to find them all in the middle of a divorce. Their husbands have all walked out for younger women and as a united front they decide to get even. This film is feminist, funny and fantastic! This movie is absolutely hilarious. Girl power!!!! Bette Midler, Goldie Hahn and Diane Keaton are awesome together. They make you laugh. They make you cry. You just want to jump on the band wagon with them. I think the concept behind the movie is great and I have to wonder if there aren't women out there that have already created a First Wives Club. Just goes to show that a scorned woman can be incredibly powerful and vengeful.
