The idea is an interesting high concept, but the screenplay is such a mess that it's hard to get behind it. Michael Douglas is solid and David Fincher's direction is trying, but it also shockingly lacks his usual expert pacing. The whole story falls apart further when the ludicrous ending is reached and thinking about to the film, the script comes off as even more messy as I thought when watching it. The best element, though, is the sound work. Every little sound effect is so detailed and refined, so Ren Klyce deserves most of the credit for the parts that do work well. As a whole, it's unsatisfying Fincher and in its parts, it's even worse.Stop reading these reviews..... - Seragilo
If you are even slightly entertaining the thought of zipping this movie you should *STOP* where you are and just go and hit that wee red button.
You don't need nor want to be given an in-depth look into the plot....events, timelines or backgrounds of the characters.
This movie is best watched without having it dissected before you.
Is it an older movie? Yes. Is it slightly dated for our time? Well.....yes. However, it is a movie that *has* stood the test of time, can be entertaining no matter the decade and will leave you wondering why you didn't zip it earlier.
Now.....go hit that red button!An amazing suspense..... - Cricri7
The game is a movie with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn that tells the story of a rich man, Michael Douglas, being offered a gift by his wild younger brother, Sean Penn. The gift is a "game" meant to shake up your life. All sorts of wild and bizarre things start happening to him. I loved it when it came out and I still enjoyed watching it this time around. I highly recommend it for those wanting to enjoy a great suspense.
