The Grass Is Greener
Hollywood legends Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr, Robert Mitchum and Jean Simmons team up for this lush romantic comedy that proves that variety is the spice of love.
When a struggling British earl (Grant) opens his manor to the public, what he wants is some badly needed money... what he gets is a handsome American millionaire (Mitchum) who sweeps the earl's gorgeous wife off her feet.
Encouraged by his wife's chatterbox best friend (Simmons), the jealous earl challenges his Yank rival to a duel. The romantic royal is fighting for love and honor, but he could lose something more -- his life!

Unless you are a tried and true Cary Grant fan, there's not much reason to rent this movie. The dialogue tries too hard to be witty and there is no chemistry among the characters. That Mitchum and Kerr are supposed to fall in love at first sight early in the movie is completely unbelievable. The English/American rivalry gets annoying after the first few exchanges. We get the point!!! I'm not against talky movies in general, but this one feels too staged and stilted, making for dull viewing.Banter and fun! - Anon1832
What an enjoyable movie! Cary Grant is as good as ever - in fact, his understated humour is even better than usual in this movie. The plot he comes up with to win back his straying wife is lovely and sweet. They are a real couple - they embrace eachother's foibles and you can really feel the respect and the love and the friendship between them (despite her getting swept up in a romance with that pushy American!). All five cast members are excellent and it's nice to see a small cast movie that really works.
I also think the credits at the beginning are great - if only modern movies took a cue from this movie! It's not just that they're at the beginning, it's that they are so interesting to watch.
I also love that they are "dressed by" designers. The clothing is amazing in this movie!
