The Great Gatsby
Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) is the beautiful, unobtainable Daisy Buchanan in this opulent A&E original production of F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece of Jazz Age decadence, ambition and tragic passion.
Returning from the battlefields of World War I, an impoverished young soldier learns the love of his life has married into a wealthy family and moved to Long Island's fabled Gold Coast. Obsessed with rekindling their romance, he reinvents himself as the mysteriously prosperous Jay Gatsby, throws scandalously lavish parties at his glittering mansion -- and waits for his chance.
But when that chance comes, it comes at a price as terrible as it is inevitable. A richly produced, powerfully evocative vision of this unparalleled American classic.

Good Made For TV Movie - Ferret
The 2000 edition of Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, was on the whole on par with the 1974 edition although you could tell it was made for t.v. If using this movie as an excuse for not reading the book you will not miss much and as long as you remember that the green light is a symbol, no matter what grade level you're reading this at, you'll be fine. If you need the smaller details, the movie embellishes attitudes and physical appearances. Jordan does not really look like that, nor does mrytle, but Gatsby is spot on. For story, since I found the book intriguing only a few times, I gave the movie a 3 for staying true to the original novel,(even including the opening chapter as a monologue), which is, in my opinion, mediochre as a great American novel and there are many more thought provoking books out there to be read instead. I suggest getting the Coles notes and rent both copies of the movie and you'll be flying through those exams with a minimum grade B.
If watching this movie just for entertainment it could actually be worth 3.5/5. Worth a chance.
