The Hard Way
There's Only One Way These Two Are Going To Get Along...
Nick Lang (Fox) is a popular star who joins forces with a tough New York detective (Woods) in order to break out of his "nice guy" screen image. On the trail of a ruthless serial killer, the last thing Moss needs is a pampered Hollywood sidekick.

Okay, so it's not a _great_ movie... - MatthewE
...but I'm very fond of it. It's an odd-couple comedy, with Fox as a feckless movie star and Woods as an intense cop. But it works, and the proof of it is that you totally forget that James Woods is just as much of a movie star as Michael J. Fox. Also, I like LL Cool J's character. Nobody nominated this movie for any Oscars that I heard about, nor should they have, but it delivers what it promises. If you want to amuse yourself even further as you watch it, contemplate the following: the "hard way" of the title refers to Broadway; discuss.High-Octane Cop Drama - newdaysof
James Woods and Michael J. Fox make a surprisingly good team-up in this fast-paced, funny, cop-drama. James Woods gives a great performance as a stressed-out, burnt-out New York City cop who is forced to play "babysitter" to a Hollywood actor who wants to learn how to play a cop. Michael J. Fox plays the loveable but naive actor who keeps getting in the way of his investigations.
Cop dramas are such a tired genre, but again, because of the great performances by Woods and Fox, and the high-paced action sequences, this movie is very entertaining. The characters and conflicts they portray are believable and engaging. And New York City is really the third character in this film: the downtown streets, the back-alleys, Times Square with a great giant mannequin of Michael J. Fox, the gritty Bronx slums and subways.
There is a decent sountrack and the rapper LL Cool J plays a cop and one of his rap songs is included on the soundtrack. The Hard Way - julianrjh
I really wanted to like this movie... really, really did. But oh boy, does it ever stink. I was in the mood for a giant Hollywood action/comedy, but this one was a bad choice. It's so intent on being mediocre that there's nowhere for it to go. Watching James Woods, Annabella Sciorra and Stephen Lang in such neutered role gets really painful. This is Michael J. Fox shtick - not material for intense actors. Gah - skip it.
