Low point for two greats - Aguirre
I found this to be very disappointing. Both Frankenheimer and Caine have some classic work, but there's something about the 80s that brought out the dumb and shallow in everyone. The script is an embarrassment. Imagine Sylvester Stallone remaking North by Northwest and you might have a sense of what this is like: innocent man caught up in international intrigue shoots and blows up stuff real good.Great novel, average movie - Coconut_Willy
If, like me, you are a fan of Robert Ludlum's books, you can only expect disappointment. No surprise here. What really lacks in this movie is some sort of atmosphere build-up. The storyline is good and is well developed but the overall play of the cast does not really fit with it. Michael Caine is his usual self; charming, a bit naive and humorous. Sadly, I don't believe that it's what this movie needed. The rest of the cast is pretty average delivering an uninspired performance with a fair dialogue and nice characters. The sets and locations are very good, the soundtrack is good and the camera work is appropriate. Overall, there are too many relief moments in this movie with the result that while you can't put down a Ludlum novel, you can hardly wait for this film to end.
