I wouldn't have rented it.
I thought it was going to be something more like Wind Dancer or Second Chances...a good family movie suitable for children.
Instead it turned about to be a romance, and the story kept drifting all over the place.
This is suitable for romance fans, and maybe people who like horses as well. But as general viewing, or a family movie, I would say skip it.The Horse Whisperer - skfoster
I can't get enough of this movie. It is thrilling, sad, heroic, and most of all heart warming. If you are a horse lover or not, this movie is for everyone who likes a little romance as well. To see the way horses can interact with people is amazing. In my personal opinion this is truley a five star movie. I can't say it any better than that. If you haven't seen the movie, take time to add it to your zip list, you won't be disappointedLike trotting down a long country road - bwod
The horse aspect is what drew me towards this movie. The story about a girl and her horse, both traumatized in a road accident, being rehabilitated through their common experience on a ranch in Montana sounded interesting. I had also heard about a "horse whisperer" named Monty Roberts, who showed how it was possible to train a horse, even a wild mustang, without violence.
The movie works well to bring these threads together, and goes much further to examine human nature and the relationships between people. If your'e looking for an action movie, this one may disappoint you. It moves slowly, and deliberately, over 2 1/2 hrs, and no apologies are needed. Robert Redford's years of experience both as an actor and director, enable him to put together an emotionally moving and rewarding experience in the beautiful Montana foothills.
I would rate this movie as very good. One and a half thumbs up.
