An incredibly dated squealfest - JtotheRoc
This is the lowest common denominator of animated features, I fear. It's a screechy, loud, annoying motion picture almost always backed by a relentless musical score. The characters are alarmingly infantile, the dinosaurs frequently change colour and the plot is bland.
Kids deserve better than this.Excellent children's movie - Solangel
I loved this movie when I was a child. It is sad, happy, fun and adventurous and it has dinosaurs in it! A great movie for both girls and boys, it has several nice messages for kids such as:
"life goes on, be strong"
"everyone's different, we must get along"
"the importance of forgiveness"
"even little guys can make a big difference / physical strengh isn't everything"
"love yourself for who you are"
All of these messages have been given over and over again in many children's movies, but none of them are quite as effective as The Land Before Time.A+ “you’re ok” message for struggling children - eyewitness2
My son went through some severe periods of depression as young as 7 years old and I loved that loneliness and depression have a place in Littlefoot’s journey. This movie has a gentle and touching way of explaining life’s struggle. That and the indescribably strong bond between a mother and her son make this perhaps the best cartoon movie I’ve ever seen in my life.
Additionally, this movie (the very first ORIGINAL ‘Land Before Time’) has really beautiful instrumental music unspoiled by silly songs. A must-have for your family film collection.
