The Last Waltz
"The Finest Of All Rock Movies!" -Newsweek
It started as a concert. It became a celebration. Join an unparalleled lineup of rock superstars as they celebrate "The Band's" historic 1976 farewell performance. Directed by Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull, Goodfellas), The Last Waltz is not only "the most beautiful rock film ever made" (The New Yorker)... it's "one of the most important cultural events of the last two decades" (Rolling Stone)!

Transcendent music in the hands of a young master - QueerNorth63
The Scorsese touch takes beautiful music and the tremendous energy that each and every performer who join The Band on stage, a blissful experience. More than a concert music it is Scorsese's great homage the music of his generation and an opportunity (thankfully not lost) to document some of the greats of rock/folk music in the late seventies. Watch the DVD extra film made 25 years later, and it gives great perspective on what you will just have seen. Tremendous film if you're a music fan.Perfect documentary of a great concert - Coconut_Willy
To this day, I still consider The Last Waltz the greatest film ever about a live concert. I can't say that I'm a big fan of The Band (nor was I at the time) but every time I watch this film I have to say wow! Just based on the technical aspects, this is great; excellent sound, fabulous camera work through great shots, nice sets (although I'm not sure if it's all made for the movie itself) and a great mixture of performances, short clips and interviews. But just to add even more to a great package, you get these incredible performances from a neverending list of fabulous guests. This is just unbelievable. Mentioned above are Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters and Van Morrison and it's true that their performances are probably the best of all but there is also Joni Mitchell, Dr John, the Staple Singers, and so on, and so on. Man, this is good. Highly recommended for all music fans, regardless of your preferred musical style.Canadian Content rules of the 60’s and 70’s have ibeen the biggest influence of American Music - cenex
In a time dominated by American and British music Canada creates it’s first Canadian Content rule for radio. Had Canada not, the USA would not be the nation it is….meaning, the US is a nation build on mystic and dreams conveyed through music….influenced by CANADA! What resulted is partially shown in this movie, “The Last Waltz”.
Really. This movie should make you stop and think; for a number of reasons:
Had it been not for a Can Con rule 90% of the people in this movie would not have seen the light of day! Even funnier that Rockin’ Ronnie would have languished in Arkansas for his entire life!
Canada has influenced the 60’s and 70’s music scene like no other people, bar none.
Corn liquor could be the greatest creative force in the world.
If Marin Scorsese had been bore in Canada he never would have made this film but would have made many more about snow, hunger, the labour movement and multi-culturalism (which isn’t a word in the USA according to Microsoft).
The latest release should be a prerequisite watch for every film student…..the most beautiful 16mm footage I have ever seen……EVER!
Only a bunch of white Canadian Musicians would think of calling themselves “The Honkies”!
In our day and age of consultants, dressers and publists, I believe what we see of “the band” is real. I tired. I’ve made a bunch of money. I’ve smoked a ton of dope. I’ve @@@ a lot of women. I’m done.
I saw Bob Dylan in 04 and after seeing this movie I would have not really known what Dylan was live….that should make you move.
Insights….the only guest to do an encore was Dylan…Ronnie can be seen drinking in the BG at the last song. Neil Young looks current…even 3o years AGO! Joni Mitchelle looks as old as she does now! Some one tries to peg Neil Young as he leaves the stage!
According to a friend who was there…it was even better in person!
