The Little Prince
From Asteroid B-612...Into Our Hearts
Antoine de Saint-Exupery's slender, beloved classic of innocence and discovery comes to the screen with its feet firmly on the Saharan sand, its eyes tilted to the stars and its spirit brightly soaring to the songs of Alan Jay Learner and Frederick Loewe (My Fair Lady, Camelot). "The score of The Little Prince is a sheer delight," says The New York Times. Delightful, too, is the magical storyline about a desert stranded pilot (Richard Kiley) and a wandering child from a faraway place. Together, the two share encounters that amuse, charm and touch the heart. Have you ever acquired wisdom from a fox (Gene Wilder)? Cared for a rose that was special beyond all roses? Visited a far-off, far-out king? Witnessed the wily dance of a snake (Bob Fosse)? The universe-no, life-is an enchanting place, even more so when it's shared with The Little Prince.

I now know the fuss over this children's author is well deserved. As for the film, I hadn't known a film mainly set in a sand dune could capture my attention and be substantial (morally, emotionally). In a few words this film is about the lessons a well travelled child can impart onto an adult. I'd suggest viewing this film without holding any knowledge about the plot. One Seriously Trippy Kid's Movie. - cathyottawa

This is a musical adventure story about a little prince, a pilot, and their adventures in the desert. We learn about the little prince's journey from his strange home planet to Earth, and about the characters he met while here.
Bob Fosse and Gene Wilder are both memorable as a snake and a fox respectively (though I thought Fosse's dance number ran a little long, and got boring). And the kid playing the little Prince is absolutely adorable.
This is based on the French children's story, but, from what I can gather, bears little resemblance to it.
I'm not sure who this movie is for. The philosophical themes it explores are sure to go over any child's head, but the sing song aspect plays out very much like a child's film. Any lessons or morals are likely to be lost by child viewers, making this a visual delight that's fun, and a little strange, but not much more.
I would warn that the ending may be a bit disturbing for children as well - ****Spoiler alert! **** The little prince basically commits suicide by letting the snake bite him, in order to get back to his home planet. Not exactly a lesson I'm looking to teach my little one!what a wonderful change from cartoons - Lori
My boys absolutely delighted in this show and especially the difference between this and cartoons. They couldn't get enough of the different camera angles, etc etc. It may be an older film but its a wonderful and fun story and one that should be viewed by all children at some point!
