The Lost Battalion
October 5, 1918. The Germans gave them two options. Surrender. Or die. They chose a third.
It began on October 2nd, 1918, when the men of the U.S. Army's 77th Division, 308th Battalion were surrounded by German troops in the Argonne Forest. Without food, water or reserve ammunition, cut off from supply and communication lines, and subjected to constant assaults and bombardments, they managed to hold off the enemy until they were finally rescued after five days of desperate action.
This A&E Original Movie brings their harrowing ordeal to life. Directed by Russell Mulcahy (Ricochet, Highlander), The Lost Battalion stars Rick Schroeder (NYPD Blue, Crimson Tide) as Major Charles Whittlesey, the civilian-turned soldier who won the Congressional Medal of Honor for keeping his outnumbered troops alive and fighting in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

This movie is one of the best WWI movies I have ever watched. It tells the true story of a group of men in the Argonne forest in the waning days of WWI, surrounded by Germans, and in short supply of food, water, and ammunition, while trying to counter continuous German attacks, but due to the heroic decisions and actions of it commanding officer, a good deal of men were able to way away from that forest with their lives and thwart off a German push forward their lines. For as far as I can remember, Hollywood simply has the tendency to changing bits and pieces of a true story by adding unneeded mushiness; this movie does not, it simply sticks to history, that’s why I like it.Excellent - .joef.
One of the best world war 1 movies if not the best. the fighting scences are mint, great like band of brothers. so much action, excellent all together. i would recommend this for all history buffs and for anyone who likes a good movie with action. you get to see how world war 1 was like and what going over the top meant. One of the better war movies. - RocFan
I do not know how accurate it was, it happend 88 years ago, but this is well made informative movie about the horrors of the War to end all Wars (The first World War, were the great pandemic started). I was pleasantly surprise by the performance of Rick Shroeder (not a fan)but he was cast well and did an excellent job. My wife, who thoroughly hates war movies, did enjoy this one. Intesting Story (based on real facts)well made and very entertaining.
