The Love Letter (1998)
A letter from the past would change their future forever.
Transcending the dimension of time, a love letter found in a secret compartment of an antique desk magically seals the fate of two young people linked by destiny yet separated by more than one hundred years. When Scotty (Campbell Scott) discovers a poignant letter written by a mysterious woman called Lizzie (Jennifer Jason Leigh), he cannot get her out of his mind. Putting thoughts of his upcoming wedding aside, he is compelled to write Lizzie a letter of his own. A romantic correspondence ensues and flourishes into a love so powerful, not even a century and a half of time can keep them apart. Spanning an era from the Civil War to the present day, the perils of Lizzie's war torn present threaten her safe passage into the future. Would their love be strong enough to endure the test of time?

This was an absolute gem. It was a nice fantasy, unrealistic yet charming. I had seen this movie on TV years ago but had missed the ending. Being able to see it now didn't let me down one little bit. I loved it. This was another great hallmark hall of fame gem.Snooze - TMFan1
I love a good romance and this is not it!
One has to wonder what two talented actors like Campbell Scott and Jennifer Jason Leigh were thinking when they signed on for this stinker. The story is predictable, the pace plodding, and most of the time the two leads look embarrassed delivering the stilted dialogue. There's no spark between the leads, bad score, and of course Scott has a zany mother and a fiance we can't help but hating just because she's unknowingly in the way of the Lizzy/Scott romance. Lizzy's parents are predictably strict and her sister is a cherubic shrinking violet compared to the brash, deep, passionate, poetry writing Lizzy. This movie is just a morass of cliches. If you want a cute romance across time movie, check out Kate and Leopold - silly but sweet.
