The Man in the Moon
Oscar nominees Sam Waterston and Tess Harper, and veteran actress Gail Strickland (Norma Rae) join three talented newcomers in this "deeply moving film" (Los Angeles Times) about coming of age and sexual discovery in rural, 1950s Louisiana. Brilliantly directed by Robert Mulligan (To Kill A Mockingbird, The Summer Of '42), The Man In The Moon is a poignant and bittersweet tale Roget Ebert calls "a wonderful movie...a victory...a meticulously prepared masterpiece."
Fourteen-year-old Dani (Reese Witherspoon) and her older sister Maureen (Emily Warfield) have always shared everything. But when Court Foster (Jason London) moves in next door, the sisters become rivals as Dani experiences her first feelings of affection and Maureen finds the true love she's longed for. But with love comes heartache, and the sisters soon learn a tough life lesson when tragedy strikes and the strength of their bond is the only thing that will keep their hearts from breaking.

I remember seeing this movie when it first came out, I thought it was a sweet coming of age movie. Seeing it again after so many years, it's still a sweet coming of age movie but with some so so acting, especially by Maureen (Emily Warfield). But one thing you could see straight away was Reese Witherspoon's talent.
It's a good movie to see, though it's predictible and has a certain "cheese" factor, it,s worth the watch!Lil Reese - FilmJunkie
A sweet little film mostly notable because it shows the talent that Reese Witherspoon had at a young age.
Here she plays the ignored, tomboy sister who is enfatuated with Jason London (remember the London twins? Good times!) but isn't 'developed' enough to catch his eye.
The film often lags, but the scenes between Witherspoon and London break your heart. She is such a charmer, there is no question as to why she is one of the biggest stars on the planet now, this movie proves she has always had it, it took for the rest of us to notice it.Reese's Breakout Performance - stelly
I never knew about this movie except that I worked in a video store and popped it in one day, awesome movie, I'm a sucker for movies set in the south back in the 50's and 60's and this is a classic. Most people have never heard of this movie or seen it but take a chance, you won't regret it, but make sure you have a box of kleenex beside you - not sure you guys will like it but the ladies will go crazy for it.
