X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes
Dare To Look Into The Eyes Of Madness!
"Fantastic" (Los Angeles Times) tale of heart-pounding suspense, this "harrowing [and] terrifying" (Boxoffice) sci-fi shocker "will fascinate horror film fans (The Hollywood Reporter). Starring Ray Milland, it charts the startling transformation of a doctor so blinded by ambition that he dares to glimpse eternity!
When the brilliant Dr. Xavier (Milland) concocts a serum to improve human sight, he stumbles upon a formula for x-ray vision. Inspired by its awesome medical potential, but shunned by his short-sighted colleagues, the doctor tests the potion on himself, only to discover that his ability to see through walls, clothing and flesh is slowly eclipsed by and insatiable desire to look still further - even if it means seeing more than any mortal can bear!

Halfway through X (The Man with the X-ray Eyes) I got to wondering: What if David Cronenberg did a remake of this movie? He did great things with The Fly; here is another sci-fi movie that seems right up Cronenberg's thematic alley. And he's definitely a way better writer and director than Roger Corman.
But by the end, I realized that Cronenberg probably couldn't add much to X, except exploring more deeply the metaphysical aspects of the story (and, of course, having access to superior special effects) that Corman chose to only look at glancingly. Still, it's a pity. The premise of X is a thematic goldmine from which Corman only picked up a few bits of dust.
X is not as camp or awkward as you'd expect (although that nude party scene is now cringingly coy), Ray Milland helps bring a good measure of seriousness to what otherwise might only have been another bit of sixies schlock sci-fi.X-cellent Sci-Fi Classic - newdaysof
This is one of my favourite sci-fi classics from the early 60's. Ray Milland plays a doctor who discovers a way to give himself x-ray vision. Instead of reaping the benefits and rewards, his ability turns into a nightmare. A cautionary tale about what can go wrong with scientific breakthroughs if they are not carefully thought out and tested properly.
There are a couple of classic scenes: one at a party where he can see through people's clothes and another scene at Las Vegas where he can see everyone else's cards.
Don Rickles does an excellent job playing the carnival huckster who tries to exploit Dr. Xavier's ability for maximum financial gain.
