The Odd Couple
Neil Simon has a special genius for finding the great hilarity in ordinary people doing everyday things. Like two divorced men who decide to share a New York apartment. That's the premise of The Odd Couple, though there's nothing odd in the casting of two Oscar-winning talents like Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. The two veteran funnymen work together with the precision timing of a vaudeville team, but always with bright spontaneity. Lemmon plays fussy Felix, fastidious to a fault. He proves that cleanliness is next to insanity. Mattau is Oscar, who wreaks havoc on a tidy room with the speed and thoroughness of a tornado. An enduring and endearing picture, with the intelligence one usually misses in comedies.

This movie is laugh out loud funny. It is the start of the mathau/lemmon banter, the only unfortunate thing is that these acotrs seemed to replay these roles for a long time in many of their movies. An enjoyable movie that any classic fantatic should see at least onceFrom another era! - Cricri7
I had watched The odd couple growing up, the sitcom with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, but had never seen the movie adapted from the play from Neil Simon that started it all. You can't expect to watch this movie and see a comedy from the new millenium, you have to be prepared to see a comedy from many years ago.
Walter Mattau and Jack Lemmon are 2 excellent actors and they do quite a job here. Since it was adapted from a play, there is a lot of conversation and not a lot of action. Even if that is so, the interaction between the 2 is very funny. For those who don't know the premise of The odd couple, it is simply 2 divorced guys living together. One is a neat freak and the other is a slob. It leads to very funny situations. I don't think that young people will enjoy this comedy. It is more for sentimental people who know the 2 actors well or saw the sitcom long ago.Classic! - dural78
The Odd Couple bring together Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau at the comedic best! After all these years, the film has aged gracefully. The dialog between the two is priceless, and their timing is impeccable. This brand of dialog and banter seems to be a lost art. Modern comedies seem to rely on physical humor far too often.
