The People vs. Larry Flynt
"The best picture of the year!" -Rolling Stone, USA Today, Newsday
Two-time Oscar winner Milos Forman (1985-Best Director, Amadeus; 1976-Best Director One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) directs Woody Harrelson, Courtney Love and Edward Norton in this "smart, funny, shamelessly entertaining" film called "a blazing triumph" by The New York Times.
Based on the true story of the notorious Hustler publisher who was sued by the Religious Right and paralyzed by a fanatic's bullet, The People Vs. Larry Flynt is a stranger-than-fiction comedy about one man's outrageous public persona and eccentric private life. Chronicling Flynt's raunchy business savvy, his wildly controversial marriage and his infamous courtroom antics, The People Vs. Larry Flynt is "the most scintillating and outrageous message movie of the decade. An ultrapop masterpiece!" -Playboy Magazine

Interesting, but it drags towards the end - MalcolmM
I rented this movie in part because I'm a fan of Edward Norton, however he has a pretty minor part in the film.
I found the movie to be interesting, although I wouldn't call it enjoyable. Flynt is certainly an interesting person, and the movie didn't try and suger coat his character. The major problem I had with the movie is that I couldn't discern what was driving Flynt to risk so much taking on the establishment, he doesn't seem to be the sort of person who would care about such things. When it involved his magazines, the motivation was obvious, but his battles went far beyond protecting his magazines.
Flynt behaviour becomes much more bizzare later in the movie, he suffers from bipolar disorder, so I guess this was accurate, but it doesn't make for easy viewing. Definitely worth a rental though.Wow - I'm Blown Away - EmperorNero
I watched the movie for one reason.....I heard Courtney Love gave a great performance. (As she truly did in Man on the Moon)
The truth is that Love came through with flying colors....but so did every other person associated with this movie. Woody Harrelson needs to be given a 'Big Break'......he has some unbelievable acting chops.
Before watching the film, I expected my comments to be "2 Stars, Courtney does an OK job".
Now.....
4 Stars - Really enjoyable story, and the acting is EXCELLENT.
Watchability: Once every year or two.one of the best movies i've seen - Sterman
I'm a big fan for people who fight for the rights of others. some don't like what Flint does, that is fine but they need to realize that wether they like it or not, he fought for their rights too. I sometimes think that we need a new Flint for this era.
Going back to the movie, this cast is solid as a rock. We all know what Woody brings to the table but i was really impressed with Love. If she could have gotten her life back on track, she could have been a great actress. The only thing that is not great about this movie is the way it unfolds (his wife, the wheelchair), but hey that is the way his real life went.
