How the Future Began.
Epic and glorious were America's dreams to master the sky and journey into space. Also epic and glorious is this landmark movie about one adventurous test pilot, seven brave astronauts and the colorful era that forged their heroism. The Right Stuff Chronicles the story of the pioneering Mercury astronauts: the first Americans to ride a primitive spacecraft solo into a mew frontier. Preceding them in the history books was the legendary Chuck Yeager, who far removed from the awesome media spotlight that would focus on the "spacemen" a decade later, became the first man to break the sound barrier piloting the fabled X-1.

so close to a good movie - cyan_hit
this film had all of the elements of a good movie. however, it seriously required an editor who owned a watch and had ANY sense of time or pacing. this movie SLOGGED. it DRAGGED. it could have had some pep and driven the story along, especially since it was a good story! i feel that the lousy editing sucked all of the energy out of the film, which was an insult to the actors who did a very fine job of capturing a unique time in history.The Right Stuff - smilingbob
Great storytelling of an epic movie. Acting at its finest. On of Ed Harris' finest performances. Tells of the experiences of the world's first space pioneers. The risks that they took on and the glory that they received are well portrayed in this movie. For a movie made in the early 80's the filming and special effects is particularly good.

'The Right Stuff' is a phenomenal piece of moviemaking. It tells the story of America's initial foray into space, starting with Chuck Yeager's amazing feats in the cockpit in the late 1940's.
Note...'The Aviator' is (almost) a prequel to this movie...it's end is about the same time that 'The Right Stuff' starts up...a great, albeit lengthy, double bill I maight add.
It is poignant, exhillarating and liberally peppered with hillarious moments. Sam Sheppard, Ed Harris, Jeff Goldblum, Dennsi Quaid fill out an awesome cast.
This movie has something for everyone. Check it out!
