The battle of a farmer vs big company. My wife wanted me to get this video because she is a big "Mel" fan. I found the movie to be slow. She did too as a matter of fact.
A big grain company is trying to build a dam for 'business' reasons. The head of the company has leveraged a local banker and a senator to help him achieve his goal. Trying to get the farm owners to sell or into receivership, then buying the land with the ultimate goal of flooding the area (he will then own) with the creation of a dam.
Farmers cannot keep up to the struggles of Mother Nature as it either rains or there is drought. When it rains, "The River" floods the farm land and then destroys a lot of the crops.
Mel's family is constantly struggling to pay bills and it seems almost impossible that he can survive the hurdles of farm life.
Decent drama, the story was ok but a bit slow. The story ends with the feeling of not knowing if the farmers or 'big company' will prevail. If you got nothing else to do on a Sunday night, and you are a fan of the major actors, it might be worth the investment of 2 full hours.
